Gift Giving: Picture Book Edition

Petite Picture Books

I’ve spent a great deal of time creating a list of our favorite books and illustrators over the last few months.  For your holiday gift giving guide, here are our top 12 books, 12 because I couldn’t bring myself to cut the list down to 10.

No Pirates Allowed! Said Library Lou – the petites love this book because library Lou helps the pirate to realize that books are the treasure and adventure, we couldn’t agree more.

Oliver’s Tree – a sweet book about three friends who problem solve so that everyone can be included.  Not to mention, the cutest illustrations ever!

Me…Jane – stunning book about a remarkable lady who continues to inspire an entire generation of animal lovers and future conservationists.

Bats at the Library – a fun story about bats who sneak into the local library when the window is left ajar, they explore books and all the joys the library has to offer.

Flora and the Penguin – this delightful book is gorgeous and will bring a smile to any petites face and those lucky enough to share this book with them.

Tea Rex – a sweet book about a tea rex who loves a tea party.  It is super silly and the petites will love it, especially if they love to have tea parties too.

Rosie Revere Engineer – one of our all time favorite books, this book should be in the hands of all young petites.  A young girl wants to be an engineer and learns an important lesson, every flop moves you closer to getting to your goal.

Little Red Hot – another family favorite, a play on Little Red Riding Hood, Little Red Hot will have your petites rooting for Little Red Hot and cheering in the end.

Dream Animals: A Bedtime Journey & Day Dreamers: A Journey of Imagination – these two books have some of the most gorgeous illustrations I’ve seen.  They are absolutely magical.

Alice Waters and the Trip to Delicious – perfect for the petite who is interested in food and cooking.  The petites loved this book with it’s bright illustrations and

Julia, Child – another lovely book that is all about the love of food and cooking.

All of these books have been Petite Stag favorites over the past year.  They are fabulous options for gifts for the petites in your life.

Enjoy and Happy Holidays.

It’s the time of year when you are thinking you need to find a perfect gift for a petite.  Flora and the Flamingo and Flora and the Penguin are stunning books.  Flora and the Flamingo is a Caldecott Honor Book, this wordless book with interactive flaps begs to have a charming inscription written within the cover.  Books that years from now a petite will pull off the shelf and look at with fondness, books that inspire creativity and imagination, books that will make you want to open a box of colored pencils and start to draw.  I love these books.  This year these books will be under my Christmas tree, one for each petite.

I wrote about Tea Rex a few months ago, this book is lovely.  I have given this book as a gift to one of my favorite petites along with a tea set…the illustrations in this book are lovely.  If camping is more of your petites thing then you are in luck, because not only does Tea Rex love tea, but camping as too! Camp Rex, is a dinosaur with a love of the great outdoors.  I’m so excited to say that another addition, Sea Rex comes out in May of 2015, but if it’s anything like the other two, then I am sure it will delight even the youngest of readers.

If you’re looking for a great gift to give the petites in your life check out these books, they are simply gorgeous.  Molly Idle is an amazing illustrator I am sure you will love her books as much as my petites and I do.

Happy Reading,

Perfect Presents for One Year Olds: Part 1

Sometimes it is really hard to know what to get those cuddly little petites in your life.  I know before I had kids of my own, I would sometimes struggle to find the perfect gift or know what was really age appropriate.  Now, that I have two kids of my own and numerous others that I buy gifts for, I am starting to find a pattern in my gift giving.

I love to give a book, shocking I know, an English teacher who likes to give children books.  Books are really fun, but when you’re one, you always want a toy too.  So I have been choosing a book and then a toy that goes along with it.  One of my dear friends has the sweetest little girl who just loves books.  We got her, what I think is a pretty perfect present.  Although the pages are a little delicate for one year old hands, I think that reading a child a book of any format at any age is perfection.

Tea Rex by Molly Idle

I have written about this book before, Molly Idle has created some of the most amazing illustrations in Tea Rex.  This book is so cute!  I really love this story about a T-Rex who comes over to have a spot of tea.  He is just a little bit too big for a proper tea party, but that doesn’t stop him from joining in.  To go along with this fabulous book, is possibly one of the cutest toys my daughter has: the Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn Say Please Tea Set.  It is so incredibly sweet to watch a one year old use this tea set in her playing.  She pretends to eat, rather she chews on the petifores and takes sips of tea.  So precious.  My five year old even plays with her taking turns pouring the tea (it makes a pouring sound); which makes it all the more fun to have a tea party with.

This little teapot sings catchy little songs like, “Would you like a spot of tea, one for you one for me, lets take turns and always say please and thank you”.  Yes, I’ve heard it a few times.  Did I mention it is in a British accent?  Adorable.  It also has an off switch, which makes it priceless.

If you like this post, check back in again, I am going to add a few more post about my favorite gifts for petites.

What are some of your favorite toys to give little ones?  Tell me in the comments section, I’d love to hear what your favorites are.
